Faith Sharing Series

Our new series of sessions for Faith Sharing is underway and has been going great. The topic of our discussions has been the Seven Deadly Sins and the Seven Heavenly Virtues. Each week one member of the group shares on one of the seven deadly sins, then we explore the opposing virtue and investigate what Scripture and Church Traditon have to say about how we can learn and aquire the virtue needed to overcome the sin. We hope that you will join us and explore how you can progress in your walk with the Lord.

Ascension Day Mass May 13, 2010

We have a number of new projects coming up in Spirituality this year. You are already aware that the Faith Sharing Document which our group uses to prepare for Sunday Mass will be available online as well as through getting on the Faith Sharing group list. We have also determined that we would like to attend Mass together more often and perhaps visit some of the parishes where some of you live so you can meet us.
Thursday May 13 is Ascension Day and it is a Holy Day of Obligation, which means Catholics have the obligation to attend Mass. We would like to gather for a 7pm Mass. We will be attending Mass at Notre Dame of Bethlehem Church 1861 Catasauqua Road Bethlehem PA 18018. It it is possible we might be able to spend some time with Fr. New Faith Sharing Series: Seven Questions: Are You Catholic?

The Good News: Many of you are on Catholic Match looking for potential dates and ultimately a good marriage partner.
The Bad News: Many people answer that they do not agree with the Church's teaching on the seven questions in their profile.
Well maybe they just don't know what the Church actually teaches on the Eucharist, Holy Orders, Sanctity of Life, Contraception, Pre Marital Sex, Papal Infalibility, and the Immaculate Conception.
Using the Bible, Catechism, and Church teachings we will explore these important topics. We will begin this new series May 27
If you have an interest in learning how to think with the mind of the Church, we would like to see you at Faith Sharing every Thursday at 7pm ABVM Church

ABCYA Annual Retreat July 23-24

We are excited to announce the annual ABCYA Retreat at St. Francis Retreat House Chipman Road Easton PA. This year's theme is Alive: In Spirit and Truth.
We all like to think that we are growing closer to God and are living in His grace. Sometimes the noise and stress of our daily lives make us feel anything but holy and blessed. Jesus said that He came to give us life and freedom in abundance. It is possible for you to find true peace in the midst of world that seems contrary to Gospel values.
The retreat will begin Friday evening and end Saturday after Mass. The cost of the weekend is $90/person.

Bible Study at Gerry's House Thursday July 29

We will be having Bible Study at my house this week. I live at 720 Shields Street Bethlehem PA 18015. Parking is behind my house. We are also starting a new series on John Paul II's encyclical the Gospel of Life (Evangelium Vitae). This is a great introduction to many topics as well as to the idea of the Theology of the Body. I am looking into getting copies of this encyclical for everyone perferably with a study guide.Mary Francis suggested this topic and the encyclical is available online so I will send the Introduction out and we will have an open discussion on the Introduction this week.
We will be starting a video series on the book of Matthew that Ruthie gave me when we finish this next topic. I need to ensure that we will have a VHS player available from Assumption so that we can watch the video weekly and discuss the questions I have in a commentary.
Some other ideas for the future include watching videos of movies with a moral message and discussing it. Probably watch the video the first week and maybe the second week followed by discussion of that particular film and Theology of the Body. So stay tuned.

New Faith Sharing Series, 7:30 Thursdays

After finishing the series on the Gospel of Matthew in our new Faith Sharing series we will turn our attention to the Letter of St. James. James gives us a practical framework for living out the gospel message in the world. After his conversion James became an outspoken leader in the early church and eventually the Bishop of Jerusalem where he suffered martyrdom. Join us for a series of interactive lectures on the Epistle of James.

New Faith Sharing Series

We will be begining a new series of Faith Sharing on Thursday July 28, 2011. This time we will be focusing on Apologetics. The first week we will be talking about the importance of learning to explain your faith. Then I would like members to send me some questions that they might have and would like answers. I will choose the best questions and then find the Church teaching and scripture passages and we will discuss it during the Faith Sharing session. We meet 7:30-8:45 on Thursday nights at Assumption Bethlehem. Hope to see you there.

Vocations Presentation August 11

Join Seminarian Jeremiah Ferrebee as he discusses his vocation to the priesthood. What if instead of assuming that God will call you to the priesthood or religious life in a special way, you assumed that you were called to the religious life unless God tells you otherwise. Jeremiah is starting at St Charles Seminary in the fall and is doing speaking on vocations to groups. It should be a good presentation. We will have this in place of weekly faith sharing at ABVM Bethlehem 4100 Old Bethlehem Pike Bethlehem PA 18015.

New Faith Sharing Series Coming in January

We are finishing up our study of the Mass. In January Faith Sharing is going to become more dynamic with the new series Growing Closer to Christ. No Faith Sharing Documents in this series, in fact you will be actively involved in each study. So come prepared you may wind up doing an activity or watching a video...Lots of variation.

Sunday Mass at Your Parish

There has been interest in having the group go to different parishes once a month together. We would like to start doing this. If you have an interest in hosting this monthly ABCYA event please call me or e mail at gerry@abcya.org. We will have a meal together afterward at a nearby restaurant.

Epiphany Party January 5 2012

Due to the Christmas and New Years Holiday the group has decided that we will not have Bible Study on 12/22 or 12/29. We will begin Faith Sharing again on January 5 2012 with the annual Epiphany party at my house (720 Shields St. Bethlehem PA) Traditionally, Catholics celebrate 12 days of the Christmas season with parties and other gatherings culminating on the evening of Epiphany.
Each year we celebrate this evening by having a party on the evening of the Epiphany. Guests will arrive at 7 pm and we will have a meal followed by the crowning of the monarch. Other games and festivities will follow.
Then in January, be ready for a more interactive and exciting Faith Sharing experience Growing Closer to Christ.

Faith Sharing Series 01-12-2012

Years ago most of us got all dressed up and brought to the church where our parents and godparents made promises for us and we entered the Church. But how much do you really know about Baptism? Is it just a covering over of your sinful nature? Did it make you a new person? Why can't I be baptized again now that I understand who Jesus is and what He did for me? And why do we celebrate Jesus' baptism in the Jordan river every January? Be ready for a fun interactive night where you willl learn the answers to these questions and more. 7:30 pm ABVM Church Bethlehem PA 18015
